Philoptochos Women Attend the Annual PICC Luncheon

St. Catherine members attending the PICC annual fundraising luncheon on May 19 were Nancy Charoni, Del Buck, Catherine Iles, Joanne Zarkades and Mary Lou Barton. Our table was also joined by four very nice ladies of a Baptist Church. Approximately 700 attendees filled ShoWare Center in Kent. The keynote speaker was Dr. Steve Freng with Prevention/Treatment Manager NW High Impact Drug Trafficking Area. His emphasis was on drug trends in our community, showing that of all the states in the union, Washington State and Oregon had the highest incidence of marijuana and other drug abuse due to the tolerance of marijuana growing. Drugs enter the United States via Mexico's drug cartels. There were several youngsters present who were PICC Graduates and given an ovation. Brian and Jen Clintworth's presentation, "A Family's Thanks", told us that not being able to have children, they decided to adopt, and did so, a boy and a girl that were PICC babies. Shortly after, they had their own children - twin boys, and then a girl! All five happy children were on stage with their happy parents! If you have not attended a PICC luncheon in the past, we highly recommend you add it to your calendar for next year. PICC is one of St. Catherine's local commitments started by past Philoptochos President Nancy Charoni. Thank you, Nancy.

Community Meals at Jubilee Women’s Center
REBUILDING LIVES
ONE EXTRAORDINARY WOMAN AT A TIME

May's dinner at the Jubilee Women's Center focused on a spring menu, even if the weather wasn't cooperating fully. We had spanakopita and souvlaki donated from the church. Dimos Katsis grilled the souvlaki which was accompanied by orzo and tomato sauce made by Kristina Mehas, and salad. Elaine donated fresh fruit (always a favorite) and Nancy Charoni and her sister, Del Buck, made two very yummy cakes. Alexis, Raymond and Christine, Straton, and Nancy and Del heated and served the dinner and shared a few laughs with the ladies. Of course the resident mascot, little Vasili was in attendance to make sure everything was in order.

Beginning on June 15th, we will prepare and serve community meals at Jubilee Women’s Center on the 3rd Thursday of each month. Volunteers meet at Jubillee around 4:30 pm and serve the meal buffet style at 5:30 pm. Dinners that our parish provides to Jubilee help low income women and women coming out of homelessness stretch their grocery budgets. The residents not only deeply appreciate the meals, they truly look forward to and enjoy our company and friendship. If you would like to donate a food item or help prepare and/or serve the meal please contact Alexis Boyd (boyda02@gmail.com) or Elaine Newtson (ementis@gmail.com).

This year, at the Bite of Greece, you will have an additional opportunity to support women from Jubilee Women’s Center’s Chrysalis Project. Women from Jubilee’s Chrysalis Project will be selling their handmade goods during the Bite of Greece. Look for the Jubilee tables on the upstairs landing, by Jillian’s office.
