Fr. Michael Johnson
Fr. Michael was born and raised in Seattle and studied literature at the University of Washington. While preparing for ministry in an Episcopal seminary, he was drawn to Orthodox Christianity and was ordained in 1973. He has pastored parishes in Seattle and Tacoma and was the founding priest of Holy Apostles in Shoreline. He has also led ecumenical efforts, including the St. Petersburg–Seattle Sister Churches program and the Washington Orthodox Clergy Association.
A lifelong advocate for youth and Scouting, Fr. Michael has received the Prophet Elias Award—the Orthodox Church’s highest honor in Scouting—as well as the Silver Beaver Award and the BSA’s Honor Medal for extraordinary courage. Separately, he was awarded the title Washington General by the Governor in recognition of his civic leadership and community service. He and his late wife, Presbytera Mary, raised three daughters. Now retired, he continues to support the Church through liturgical service and pastoral presence
